About Bram — SoCal HVAC's One-Man Shop

Bram Vance has been fixing HVAC in LA County since 2015. No crew, no dispatch, no sales funnel. Just one tech who answers his own phone. Call 866-402-5678.

The whole story, short version

I’m Bram Vance. I started wrenching on commercial rooftop units in Van Nuys when I was 22 — hot tar, 100°F heat, a tool belt and a multimeter. I spent six years at a big commercial HVAC shop running service calls across the Valley. In 2020 I went solo because I was tired of watching homeowners get sold $18,000 systems they didn’t need.

Five years later, SoCal HVAC is still one guy, one truck, one phone. And that’s on purpose.

Why solo

I ran a three-truck crew for about 18 months between 2019 and 2021. I quit.

Here’s what I noticed: every time I wasn’t the one on the call, my customers got worse service. Not because my techs were bad — they were good. But because I couldn’t be everywhere, and a lot of HVAC problems need someone who’s been doing this for a decade to spot correctly on the first visit.

I also noticed the financial math of “growth”:

  • More techs = more overhead = higher prices to customers
  • More overhead = pressure to upsell
  • Pressure to upsell = unhappy customers
  • Unhappy customers = more marketing spend to replace them

The whole cycle exists because of the crew, not in spite of it. So I shut it down, kept the truck, and started taking calls personally again. My prices dropped. My calendar filled up. And my 5-star review count has been climbing ever since.

What I actually know

  • 10+ years of residential and light-commercial HVAC experience
  • NATE certified (North American Technician Excellence)
  • EPA Section 608 Universal certified (refrigerant handling)
  • Factory training on Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Contractor program
  • Familiar with every major residential brand — Carrier, Lennox, Trane, Rheem, Goodman, York, American Standard, Daikin, LG, Bryant, Amana, Ruud, Bosch

The business rules I won’t break

  1. I answer my own phone. Not a dispatcher. Not a receptionist. Me.
  2. I give a price before I work. You don’t get surprised.
  3. If a $40 part fixes it, the answer is $40 — not a new system.
  4. I don’t sub the job out. If I’m not physically available, you’ll know on the first call.
  5. If the fix doesn’t hold, I’m back — no charge, no argument. 1 year labor on repairs, 2 years on installs.

Where I live and work

I live in Sherman Oaks with my wife and two kids. My shop — it’s really just a parking space and a toolshed — is off Van Nuys Blvd near the 101/405. From there I cover the San Fernando Valley, the Glendale-Pasadena corridor, the Westside including Beverly Hills and Malibu, and parts of Central LA including Hollywood, Silver Lake, and Los Feliz.

If you’re in LA County and I can get to you in under an hour, you’re on my route.

The personal stuff

I play pickup basketball on Tuesdays at Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks Rec. I’m a very slow runner. I drive a white Ford Transit that you’ll probably see around your neighborhood eventually. And I’ll be the only HVAC guy who ever texts you back within 15 minutes.

Call me: 866-402-5678.
